Availability of the short 208 (affectionately known as the baby Caravan) although up from January, remains low around 5% of the fleet, and corresponding time on market is also continuing to decrease. Surprisingly, we are seeing asking prices continue to trend downward. Timing is good for owners considering selling, with current inventory so low.

Caravan 208B Grand Caravan Market Summary:

The availability of the Grand Caravan 208B, the workhorse of the Cessna brand, trended upward from a low of 2.6% of fleet on the market, in April 2020, to a peak of 4.1%. With many of these aircraft in commercial use such as sight-seeing, skydiving, etc, trends related to availability and pricing are both beginning to stabilize as the world continues to recover from the impact of COVID-19. The current playing field is now more balanced for buyers and sellers.

Caravan 208B EX Market Summary:

Late model Grand Caravans, the “EX” with the large 867SHP PT6A-140 engine are known for one of the best residual values of all turbine powered aircraft. While inventories of pre-owned 208B EX aircraft have nearly doubled over the past six months, price has remained stable. This phenomena consistently places new-from-factory aircraft as a serious consideration for buyers, and sellers should be aware that the residual value of their aircraft puts them in competition with the OEM in the marketplace.

Growing almonds at Briden Wilson Farm is a family adventure for Rebecca and I and our children. The children love helping with irrigation chores, and help with the raking during harvest, although they don’t love that quite so much. The kids seem more excited to find an egg in the chicken coup or watch the playful jumping of a goat kid.

The orchard keeps us busy all year long, whether pruning and poling in the foggy winter months, managing bees and blossoms during the critical pollination stage, managing weeds and other pests as spring progresses into summer, irrigating and feeding the trees during the hot growing season, or shaking, raking, sweeping, and picking up the nuts during the intensely busy harvest season. There is a satisfaction that is difficult to put into words every season as the fruit of our labor is rewarded.

Wipaire Floats

Wipaire is a third-generation family-owned American aircraft manufacturing and repair company, best known for its aircraft floats.

The company was founded shortly after World War II by Ben Wiplinger, a veteran of the United States Army Air Forces. He returned to his native Minnesota and set up shop at South St. Paul Airport to convert surplus military aircraft (usually transport types; sometimes bombers) into civilian executive aircraft.

Wiplinger was an avid floatplane pilot, and he was familiar with the dominant line of light-aircraft floats of the era, EDO. He sought an EDO dealership, but was turned down. He formed Wipline, Inc. to fabricate his own line of aircraft floats.

The production of Wipline floats commened in 1960, though the first set wasn’t sold until 1962. By 2013 the company had delivered over 2000 sets of floats, ranging in capacity from Cubs to Twin Otters.

Bob Wiplinger, Ben’s son, established Wipaire, Inc. in 1974. Both companies (Wipaire, Inc. and Wipline, Inc.) were combined in 1979 when Bob purchased Wipline, Inc. from Ben. Today, the company president is Chuck Wiplinger, Bob’s son and Ben’s grandson, who took over the role in 2011.

Until 2013 the company was based entirely in Minnesota. In late January 2013, it opened a floatplane service and repair facility at Leesburg International Airport in Lake County, Florida.
